This helpful, life-giving book is written in an easy to understand way to help you understand anxiety and to know some practical things to do in order to have victory over it. Sarah provides really helpful insight and tools to use when facing anxiety. Since reading the book, I have already applied some of these tools and have noticed a difference in myself. Getting understanding is SO helpful. I have loved her book so much I bought one for a friend and I have also read her blogs and have signed up to do her online course! Though I feel incredible compassion for her own personal suffering that she wrote about in her book, I know that I, along with many others, are helped by her understanding, insight, and experience with anxiety. Her heart to help others permeates her writing.

If your a Christian and struggle with anxiety, this is a tool you need. As I think this book is awesome the only part I don’t totally agree with is the meditation part. I think meditation is fine as long as our hearts are in the right place. I meditate when I’m anxious to bring myself into the present moment and then I pray. It’s all about your perspective and convinctions

This book is written by a woman who's been there. While she may happen to visit there every so often, she doesn't live there anymore.Her story was so relatable that I felt understood.Her approach is simple, but not easy. It won't happen over night, but it is possible when you keep at it.It's not condescending, not "just give it to God, pray harder" advice. It's a whole person approach: mind, body, spirit.Maybe even unbeknownst to her, she applied the 4 steps to re-wiring your brain that Jeffrey Schwartz, MD outlines in his book Brain Lock. It was like his book was the research and her book was the how to.Read it, slowly. Apply it, faithfully. Even if it seems too simple: think 2 Kings 5:13- if you were asked to do some great thing, would you not do it?This book is worth your time.

This is a book about a tough topic, anxiety. I will be the first to admit that anxiety is a much bigger part of my life than I would like. While I am not bed-bound as the author was at one point, I still am anxious often and thought this would be a worthwhile book to read. I was correct in that assumption. The book is broken down into 21 chapters (21 days), and there are helpful tips and advice in each chapter (i.e. understand what happens physically during an anxiety attack, eat healthier, exercise, spend time in God's word, let God into your life to help you through any circumstance, don't fight the symptoms, etc). It was nice to read advice and what worked for someone who actually struggled with anxiety. I would recommend this book to anyone who has faced anxiety, or loves someone who does.

In the introduction, Chris states "You may be looking for ways to naturally treat a particular health problem such as Irritable Bowl Syndrome..." and then goes on to promote the Paleo diet as the solution to a myriad of diseases. I have the highest respect for Chris, but imagine my surprise, when I get to page 346 (out of about 400), that I discover that anyone with GERD, IBS, IBD or any digestive disorder should not be following a Paleo diet, but a low FODMAP diet !! I realize that there is overlap between the two diets, but I was really hoping to use the meal plans put forth in this book. Chris does not provide any way to modify any of his meal plans to adapt them to a low FODMAP plan in his extensive online additional materials.

If you’re looking for the definitive book on health in general, and the Paleo diet specifically, this is it!!! The author outlines a three-part plan to customize the Paleo diet for your specific needs, beginning with a 30-day “Restart.” During the 30 days, you return to a diet plan that conforms to that of our distant ancestors, allowing your body to heal itself of the chemicals in processed (and otherwise adulterated) or mismatched (i.e. for human consumption) foods. By the end of the 30 days you should feel better than ever.It only took me a day or two to begin to feel a difference! I am nearing the end of my 30-day Restart, and, having tried most of the diets out there, including low-fat, low-carb, vegan, vegetarian, raw-foods vegan, and counting points, I can only say that after all these years I’ve FINALLY found the right diet for my health and weight loss.(The book also discusses other health-related issues, such as sleep, exercise, and stress-management.)Many of my aches and pains have disappeared, my blood pressure is lower, my skin in softer, the lines on my face are disappearing or lessening, and I’m sure most, or all, of my other issues will resolve in the near future.

My expectations were not high when I ordered this book, but I had hoped for more concrete information than it contains. To begin with, the writer's style is like a teacher gently talking down to a classroom of children. For those with access to gym equipment, the weight should be "so heavy that for the first second or two you feel like you won't be able to budge it" (readers sans gym memberships work with their body weight and a few small free weights). Before describing any Slow Burn exercises, however, the authors spend 70-odd pages trying to debunk most common assumptions regarding exercise and diet. Not all exercise is beneficial, they argue, and some exercise can be downright harmful (jogging, the authors insist, causes, "bad knees, damaged hips, and weak backs"). Similarly, the old dictate "eat less, exercise more" is not the simple weight loss solution it seems, and the book provides all sorts of evidence to explain why (the pages are liberally sprinkled with footnotes and scientific terminology).This book seems more like a good argument for strength training than it does a full-blown revolution, but the exercises are easy to follow and should improve fitness when practiced appropriately. I had heard of the technique in several places, including Tim Ferris's 4 Hour Body. I read reviews of several similar books before making this purchase. The authors provide just enough of the science and theory along with great pictures of the exercises both at home and at the gym using machines. I use the machines and in 3 weeks, I lost 3" around my back. Every workout, I either use more weights or do more repetitions for each exercise EACH session. I highly recommend you download a free metronome app to your phone. I just did my first workout with the metronome and it helped me standardize the exercises even more. Of course, I'm a BIG FAN of working out only every 6 days! I also like that the book was not sensational...not ONE before and after picture...about two pictures of people who were not demonstrating the moves. I have never liked gyms or machine workouts, and now I'm hooked. I paid a trainer to show me how to use each machine and to determine the correct setting which I think was money well spent.

We have done the exercises now for 2 weeks. We are both 65 and we have been exercising regularly for 3 years now and these exercises were really difficult and we both felt the muscles for several days after. We really like this book. This is not easy exercises even though you might think it would be easy but it seems to be very effective. Thanks!

I think if I were a beginner into fitness I could be mis-directed with some of the exercise descriptions.He has certain names for exercises that some machines use alternate names...This is short sited in my opinion for a fitness trainer.I just started on the system and am figuring out the workout.I do like the options of once a week instead of hitting the gym 3X per week, since I am getting older and my body is feeling the wear.

I actually bought this book because I had set out to buy "The Cardio-Free Diet", by Jim Karas. I found out about Slow Burn and bought it, too, as well as the 2 Protein Power books.I have been doing a cardio workout on a stationery bike for about 5 years. I have been spending over three hours a week, and am no longer happy with the results. It seemed no longer to be doing anything. Reading this book told me why.The Karas approach and the Slow Burn approach are very similar. However, the diet part of Mr. Karas program is not workable for me. I have been a low carber for 6 years and have lost 86 pounds. Mr. Karas' diet approach is low-fat/low-calorie/low-protein/sort of low-carb. See a pattern there? I could never follow that program without ruining my diet efforts. Slow Burn was written by Fred Hahn, the fitness expert, and the Drs. Eades, experts on the low carbohydrate diet. For anyone who is or wants to be low carb, this is the one to buy.Also, I haven't actually started my Slow Burn workouts yet. It took me a couple of months to read all my books. For the Slow Burn program there is not much one has to buy, but I do still need a couple of things so I haven't started yet. Reading the other comments about people's results in just a month or two has recharged me! I'm looking forward to jumping in.

I am addicted to embroidery books, and this one has a great selected of tips and projects. It goes beyond embroidery...it also has an array of stitching projects such as cross stitch, which I am anxious to learn. I will say I wish it just focused on hand embroidery, but I still really like the book. I also love the spiral binding, which makes it easy to lay flat and access.

This book is really great if you have no idea what you're doing, which craft type is for you, or if you're interested in branching out from one form of stitchery or another.The explanations about the different threads, tools, and uses of each stitching type was very well written and I feel much more confident now about what kinds of projects I want to try and which ones to stray away from. The illustrations were excellent, much more helpful than photographs. There are also a lot of little tips that I felt were *actually* helpful, like running recombined threads through freshly beeswaxed lips in order to seal them together.The included projects are both fun and functional, easy to follow, and some even offer "shortcuts" for those who do not need perfection (ie: skipping using waste canvas to ensure your stitches are straight and even - if that's not your thing.)I would buy another book from this "Everything Workshop" series.A few reasons for four stars instead of five is because I was interested in the cross stitching portion of the book and I feel I still have questions after reading "The Basics" (which is all the instructional portion of the book, after that its all projects.) Also, the included Practice Stitch Card only highlights a few (6) of the stitches and not even the complicated ones (though I would agree they are the most widely used freehand embroidery stitches) and is not pre-punched. Granted - most books likely don't even offer a practice card, but I felt it was a bit of a half hearted effort. I would have preferred a full page card that was pre-punched.

This book is for the "newbie" like me who doesn't know how to do embroidery or cross-stitch and want to learn quickly. She, Diana Rupp, shows you everything you need to know and to buy, and teaches you all the stitches that you need to learn. The book comes in "spiral type" format, you can fold it easily on the page you want it! She even includes a practice page/cardboard kind where you can practice some stitches, plus the book comes with an attached envelope with patterns for projects where you can choose from. It's really modern and nice, I like it!

This was everything I wanted and MORE. There is even a practice stitch card to use as a beginner. The spiral binding makes it easy to set up and read as your sew. The pages of supplies with photos is followed by a glossary explaining what each item is and used for. This has to be the best beginner book both in content and design. Thank you.

Books has more history about the origin of stitching that good examples for people to learn the art of stitching, I understand this is for beginners but beginners need to visulize and follow clear directions, this book is a cook book for embroidery , it needs more visual examples.

This book is so detailed I don't see how you could not learn from it. It's like a hard back spiral notebook so you can leave it open and work directly from the book.

This is like having a mini bible on every type of needle work. It is not a big book but well organized. I like how it touches upon everything that I may have a question or want to know. Granted, it won't hold your hand but it's enough when you are new to needling. A good investment and worth a place on my bookshelf.

The book is a valuable resource for patients, families, and providers who are trying to assist patients and loved ones with managing the many aspects of chronic illness.

Conceived out of the depths of personal experience, Dr. Svensson has developed this book as a practical guide for those afflicted with physically debilitating issues, including those associated with unexplained symptoms, for which curative or even palliative treatments are either nonexistent or generally unsatisfactory. The title caught my attention, especially the word thrive. Then, I opened this book and by the time I read just part of the introduction, I was hooked. Words like "story", "matter of the heart", and "invite" just dew me in. I reluctantly put it down, but within a week a book I didn’t think I had time to read was finished. When There Is No Cure is packed with practical and insightful recommendations beautifully woven with Dr. Svensson's chronic illness journey.
