works well not hard to put on
I ordered these along with another companies tabs for my catechism. As a whole, I love the idea of having the tabs! There are some issues:1) The Tab "guide" is a pain to use. I used it for the first two tabs and they came out awful. These tabs go onto really delicate paper and I ripped a page trying to fix one. I gave up using the guide after two tabs. The other company I bought tabs from suggest you start from the back and you can visually line the next one up. That worked like a charm! I wish I had started that way.2) Some of them ripped as I peeled them off. I was able to still use them.Both of these problems are mentioned in the instructions. I'm not a fool, I followed the rules. It still happened.For the price, they look great. I like that they are color coded. It would be cool if they had a sticky color coded post-it like thing to stick on the inside back cover. That way I can remember what they mean without having to find this little piece of paper again.(In this picture, these tabs are on the bible. The top are tabs I bought for my catechism from another company.)
These indexing tabs are meant to be used with the "The Great Adventure" Bible study materials. They are color coded to correspond with the historical timeline available with the study materials.However, you can absolutely use these without the study program. When I got these, the local Christian paraphernalia store only had Protestant materials. I did not find Catholic tabs there. These are fantastic. I've had them on my Bible for about 5 years and look great!You get used to having everything labeled - there's a tab labeled Maps! Perfect for anyone just starting or the most seasoned Bible reader. Excellent.
Putting these tabs on is a minor project that requires- concentration,- a steady hand,- time, and- no monkey-boys jumping on your head while you're working.(if you have no 6yo sons in the house, then you don't need to worry about the monkey-boys.)The package has a universal template that is a great idea, although improving it would be the first product improvement the mfr could make.Placing these tabs is pretty intense work:- The tabs are not always easy to remove from their sheets -- in fact, removing them is consistently somewhat difficult -- and placing them requires attention & great steadiness.- Generally, the tabs were cut pretty well at the printers; however, there are places here & there where the cut line is broken, and the tab starts tearing as you remove it. Another reason for great attention.- The adhesive is not from the 3M Post-It Note people, and I don't expect it to be. It is very strong, though. Even slight premature contact with bible paper can be a problem. If any pressure is involved with that premature contact, it's "game over" for that tab.- The template is set up to align the top corner of the tabs. Problem is, when placing tabs, all your attention is on the "paper-grabbing" part of one end of the tab, and the tab's "reference corner" is indented somewhere in the middle of the yet-to-be-folded tab. Keeping the tab aligned horizontally, vertically & rotationally, while moving it to the paper, without letting it touch before it gets there, while trying to keep an eye on the templete alignment arrow which is away from the page..... well, do you get the idea of the concentration involved yet?- The appearance of the finished product is a function of the quality of your concentration & steady hand.- The colors are generally nice, but it seems that on 1 or 2 tabs with split colors, the colors are on the wrong sides to match the adjacent tabs. The funny thing about it is: if you face these tabs in the other direction, the colors are still backwards. I don't get it.- there are enough extra tabs to cover pretty near any bible -- to cover sections beyond the "books," per se, like index, maps, etc. I have a study bible, though, and the package would need a duplicate set of tabs for its reader's guide. It also has tabs for Parts 1, 2 & 3. My NABRE isn't broken up that way, so I don't know what these are for...I just finished placing them, so I can't assess durability.I'm rating it a 3 for "average," given the improvements to be made with pre-cutting the tabs for removal, and for the more-awkward-than-it-should-be way of placing them with the template.
Well, that's a bit high of praise, but these sure are practical. As with any serious study of Sacred Scripture you're going to do a fair amount of flipping around from the Old Testament to the New Testament, cross-referencing, comparing typology, prophecies, etc..These tabs not only help you navigate faster, but they are color coded to coincide with The Bible Timeline Chart by Jeff Cavins. Colorful and very easy to apply too (if you're patient and follow the directions) I'm a former evangelical protestant and these are the best tabs I've come across so far in over 40 years of reading the Bible.To my protestant brothers and sister: Don't let the word Catholic keep you from purchasing these tabs along with the Timeline Chart. The tab pack contains tabs for the whole canon of the Bible, but simply discard those tabs, or better yet, ask yourself why your Bible is smaller and hang on to them.
Nice tabs. Fairly easy to install once I got the hang of it. I found it was easiest to tear the tabs into strips before pealing them off the backing paper; this reduced the amount they tore.
These are great. Easy to apply, and better - easy to reposition carefully after you screw up!I followed the advice of another reviewer and started at the back. Ditch the goofy guide, start at the back of your bible so you can clearly see where the last one ends & where to start the next. It may mean the the first books tabs start at the bottom of the page, but who cares? This one tip made this a 40 minute application rather than a two hour hair pulling session!
