I bought this and a few other Luna Rising books for my students in Spanish one and two. The fact that they are bilingual makes them less intimidating. The illustrations are wonderful and they get a sort of mini biography of someone important in Latin American literature. Gabriela Mistral was also a children's and women's rights advocate although that is not heavily covered in the story they do tell you that she traveled the world helping children. I use this and other picture books to facilitate reading and language comprehension while at the same breaking away from the text book.For native speakers it is not particularly difficult, as it is a children's book, but for non native learners the language used is a bit challenging at times. Which is where the bilingual part comes in really handy. It also helps for the intermediate learners, when illustrating that translation is not always 100% word for word. Overall this book is great just to read in English or Spanish and as a teaching tool if you are up to the challenge.

I wish there were more bilingual children's books like this superb story for children about the life of Gabriela Mistral, the first Latin American to win the Nobel Prize for Literature (1945). I am a university professor of Latin American Literature, and I have been teaching Mistral's poetry to university students for more than 15 years. She is typically one of my students' favorite poets, and I have found that many of her poems -- especially those about children and motherhood - are also great for young ears. Mistral was a Chilean intellectual, writer, and diplomat, but above all she was a well-respected educator, who dedicated much of her life to teaching children and young adults. It is a shame that she is not better known in this country, but this book, with its gorgeous illustrations by John Parra, is a great step toward changing that. It will enthrall children of all ages. My children (ages 3 and 6) absolutely love it, as they do all of the titles by Monica Brown, who has succeeded like few others in putting together a series of top-notch bilingual children's books that are at once entertaining and very educational. I am waiting with baited breath for the next installment in the series! There are so many Latin Americans and Hispanics who deserve to be better known by US readers.

I love the story of Gabriela, but with her being such a great poet I had hoped the book would include some of her poems.

My granddaughter is learning to speak and understand Spanish/English books . It is not so easy to find bilinguial books. Amazon has a lot of them, starting with true baby books to toddler. She loves this book whether read in Spanish or English. Very happy with my purchase

I got 7 kumon workbooks. This one was a waste of money. It is basically a dot to dot alternating with a color by number picture. 4 year will do the dot to dot but has no interest in coloring by number, would prefer to draw her own pictures. Nice thought just not engaging and too repetative.The ones that she likes the most are cutting, drawing and mazes. I like the lower case letters and numbers 1-30 for educational purposes and for fine motor skills.

This workbook is not a winner. I really like the Kumon workbooks for my little ones (2 and 4), but this one is very boring. There isn't much variety in the activities...only a connect-the-dots on one page and a color-by-number on the next, on and on and on. My 4 year old's hand gets tired from all that coloring and she does't even want to finish the color pages...this is a child who loves to color and do workbooks. Not worth it in my opinion.

My 4 year-old absolutely loves this book. Looking through it at the store I thought it may be too hard for him, but we followed the chart on the back of another book to decide what to buy next and it turns out this book is one of his favorites. Some of the dot-to-dots have some weird overlaps and for young drawers who can't make perfectly straight lines it's a little bit of a guessing game to decide what the picture is . . . but it's a fun game and is actually the BEST motivator for my son to slow down and work on his lines because he earns looking at a picture at the end vs not really caring how perfect his lines are when he practices tracing or writing letters/numbers. Also, it's great because he used to skip certain numbers, like 15 for some reason . . . this helps him backtrack and realize which number he skips so he remembers the next time. He loves the fill in pictures by number too. Thanks Kumon!

This book is great & so is the one that follows it going to 150. I've already used both for my daughter and now am using them with my son. They like the dot-to-dots and the color by numbers and really start learning larger numbers faster.

Kumon books are my go to book when my kids need a little extra help. We home school and I find myself adding kumon work books to their classes often.This book was bought for my five year old, just a little something extra and fun for her to use during math class. She likes it, it is easy and repetitive, just what she needs to really learn these concepts.

Quality paper. Good combination of connect the dot activities and color by numbers that increase in challenge level slowly.

My daughter liked it so much that I had to order another one like this one. I wish It had even more repetition from 15 to 30. Good book.

Like this book. It's quite challenging for my almost 3yo. The only complain is that coloring pages will have little bit smaller coloring parts as my kid becomes tired pretty soon after starting it.

I'm torn on this book. While the content is still somewhat applicable to the current version of access, this book is very dated with extremely old screenshots and process flows.Still a good read, but not for someone who is just starting with access because you will have a hard time applying what you are reading.

O'Reilly has a series entitled "The Missing Manual" of books. This could rightfully be the "Missing Supplemental Guide" for Access, for this book opens up a lot of the lesser known tricks that are not covered in the standard text but are part of the problems database managers face all the time. Getz, et al take us beyond instruction into actual working code, and explains the idea behind it. The examples are practical - I've put a number of them to work in daily business already. And with the accompanying CD, you can see these functions in action through live database examples. The help in the book is not overly technical so only an Access Guru can follow and replicate it. It's written for people who work with Access and are comfortable with it but want to take things to the next level. The book is organized into thematic chapters so you can delve into what you want or need to know and get the full range. My copy is covered with post-it flags for different examples I want to refer to again and again. It is not often that a book can fill the void in instruction, but Getz and the Access Cookbook had done just that. User friendly, practical, and understandable make this book a permanent resident on the shelf only an arms length away.

When I started my job, my first assignment was develop several Access databases. What they wanted was beyond what I knew of Access. After buying this book and Access Database Programming and Design, I was well on my way to develop a quite advanced Access database application. I would ask myself, "I wonder if I can..." After consulting this book for the anwser, BAM! I found it there. This book covers everything from simple VBA to advanced techniques such as incorporating a email system into a database, linked dropdown combo boxes using SQL, and creating VB Form control that tells you who all is currently in a database using ADO and VBA! I would say anyone wanting to cook a mean Access database should definitely pick this one up. It is an invaluable reference if you want to develop professional Access databases with incredible functionality!

This is a most helpful book. It solves common problems without having to reinvent the wheels. Besides, after all the years I have forgotten many of the ins and outs that I used to know that would make it easy for me to do my own design and programming. Getz did it for me.

I have been reading Access books for months now and this one hits the sweet spot that I needed. I consider myself knowledgeable in the basics of Access, but have been wanting to incorporate code to make my databases more user-friendly. I'm a network administrator, not a full-time DBA or programmer. Other books that I have read were either too basic, too theoretical, or too technical for me. This book gives dozens and dozens of practical problems that can be addressed with code along with well-written solutions and sample code that you can import and use in your databases. Thanks for a great resource!

I am enjoying reading it. I am not sure I like it in the Kindle format. it kind of inhibits notes and references.

A real world, practical book. Examples of every Access headache I have had to program around. Well documented and fun to read. Best Access book I have bought. I would also recommend Access 97 Expert Solutions for the same reasons. Any book by Getz is usually good.

If you've ever read a management book - or watched one manager work - then you already know this info. It's very VERY basic. Now, if you've worked a Frontline position and literally have never EVER lead others, ok then this might be for you. I was disappointed

This book flows so well. It walks you through how to be the supportive leader from step 1. The documentation toolkit prepares even new supervisors for those difficult conversations. I've already recommended it to one of my staff who is struggling with some of her employees. I will be using this and referring to it as I guide my teams. Extremely informative.
