About the Author
Elizabeth A. Laugeson, PsyD, is a licensed clinical psychologist and an assistant clinical professor in the department of psychiatry and biobehavioral sciences at the UCLA Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior. Dr. Laugeson is the director of The Help Group - UCLA Autism Research Alliance, a collaborative research initiative dedicated to developing and expanding applied clinical research in the treatment of children and adolescents with ASD. She is also the founder and director of the UCLA PEERS® Clinic, an outpatient hospital-based program providing parent-assisted social skills training for adolescents and young adults with ASD, as well as youths with ADHD, depression, anxiety, and other social impairments.

After much grad school research, I found this to be the only treatment for adolescents with ASD that is backed by extensive research. I was so impressed after writing a report on treatment that I purchased the program! Beware of made-up programs that have not been tested. I think this program is more effective because it requires the student to engage in social interactions outside the group. Any school can do this!
As a school psychologist, I recommend this curriculum to school based mental health professionals. I utilize this book in collaboration with a Speech and Language Pathologist and incorporate Social Thinking practices. There are times when I have to modify, but the book lays down a great foundation.
This curriculum is really great. I have seen progress for my students on the autism spectrum. It helps students reach their goals and increase social skills.
Love this Curriculum. Lesson plans, discussions and follow-up assignments all included. It’s all guided. Definitely intended for those on The higher functioning end of the spectrum, but can definitely be modified.
