About the Author
Jerry Rankin and his wife, Bobbye, spent twenty-three years as missionaries in Asia until he became International Mission Board president in 1993.Today, he leads the IMB with a vision of missionaries, churches, and volunteers partnering to take the gospel to all people. Rankin earned a bachelor’s degree from Mississippi College and his master of divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. The Rankins live in Richmond, Virginia.

I love the Psalms and Rankin's reflections have increased my love for them. Each reflection is a about a page long and ends with a short powerful prayer. Most Psalms he covers in the one reflection, however, the longer ones will be spread over a number of reflections. He brings a personal touch with his insights and in particular references his many overseas missionary adventures.I read this along with the Keller's "The Songs of Jesus" over the course of 2016 and Rankin's was a wonderful accompaniment.The Psalms are so special and we are very blessed to be able to meditate upon them. Rankin's thoughts help embellish them in your heart and help the reader get a little taste of God's awesome character. Long may we praise Him for who He is!Simply a wonderful book and if you're wanting to spend time in the Psalms grab yourself a copy as Rankin's thoughts will add further enlightenment.
This is incredible power. I have read Psalm 91 for years. The protection is real Recently I was at my lavatory and picked up a cloth. For some reason I shook it and a large female, Black Widow spider, fell out. She was dead, I live in a huge home, I thought sealed from such, but there she was red spot and all indicating the danger. I have heard a story, a Col in the army during WW II required his men to quote the Psalm daily (out loud). None of these men were killed. I know, sounds like preaching. This is the old and new Test combined. Read a modern version and you may understand the meanings better than the King James version. If I had it to go over, I would require my children to memorize.
These meditations on the Psalms, usually only two pages long, are great to read along with the particular Psalm even when you have only a few minutes to read. I like to read one just before going to bed at night as well as part of my regular Bible study time. The meditations are all the more inspiring coming from the heart of a man who has devoted his life to God's service.
I used this book as a devotional. Each day Jerry Rankin takes a Psalm and dissects it and follows with a prayer. On a few of the longer Psalms he may take more than a day. The book is a powerful reminder of how important it is to praise the Lord every day and every moment. It also reminds us of God's infinite care for us.
I really like the style and depth that Jerry Rankin writes with. He's not froth and bubble, but has depth in the word of God and experience in his walk with God. It's great going through the Psalms a day at a time, and the prayer at the end is also helpful if you like to use that to spark you on further in talking to God about what you've read. I'm using this on my Kindle but know my Mother would really enjoy this in book form, so am going to buy it for her.
What a wonderful journey through the Psalms! I have always loved the Psalms. Being a choir member most of my life, I loved seeing the inspiration for so many of our songs!
Well I haven't finished it. But, so far, I think it is very good. I happen to love the psalms. I say them out loud and I get joy from doing so. And, this book just adds to my understanding of each of them.
Jerry has captured the essence of each Psalm in this devotional. I will likely read it again and again, allowing the joy and depth of meaning to wash over me.
