Associate Professor David G. Newman is a consultant in aviation medicine and Head of the Aviation Medicine Unit in the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. His 13 years as an aviation medicine specialist in the Royal Australian Air Force, in both Australia and on exchange in the UK, include three years in support of tactical fighter operations and two years as Chief Instructor at the RAAF Institute of Aviation Medicine, where he was responsible for the training of all Australian Defence Force aircrew and medical officers. He holds a medical degree from Monash University, a Diploma in Aviation Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians of London, an MBA from Deakin University and a PhD from the University of Newcastle. He is also a pilot, with flying experience in several military fast jets including the F/A-18 Hornet and the Harrier. He has won numerous awards for his research into aerospace biomechanics and high G physiology, including the Aerospace Medical Association’s Arnold D. Tuttle award in 2000, the Buchanon-Barbour Award from the Royal Aeronautical Society in 2000, and the John Paul Stapp Award from the Aerospace Medical Association in 2014.

Ive already read the entire Tokyo Ghoul series and I'm current with Tokyo Ghoul:Re.. I'm just happy to be able to purchase it and support the artist finally. This series is incredibly awesome! Ishida is amazing and there is so much symbolism in all of the panels be it with flowers, numbers and subtle hints and foreshadowing. Definitely a favorite and I can't wait to buy them all. I really recommend reading the manga first over watching the anime.

Residing in this city is Ken Kaneki; a college student whose life takes a downward spiral the day he first encounters a ghoul. Having to undergo an operation that turns him from human into ghoul Kaneki must learn and adapt to the horrors of his new life. Ghoul turf wars, the craving of human flesh, and keeping himself hidden from society are but the stepping stones of what it means to become a "monster".Pro's:•A wonderful use of colors (black and shading)•Great moments that give the reader anxiety.•The author is able to make you care for the main protagonist in a short amount of time.Cons:•To some readers it might seem that emotions end abruptly (One moment something horrible is happening and then the next page that horror just ends).•The pacing might not be up to standards by some.Verdict: It being Tokyo Ghoul's first volume, the author (Sui Ishida) does a great job setting up this immersive story which has great potential to become an amazing one.However, this being the case, by no means is this a perfect story. It has flaws that could put off some readers but, that being said, it's still a great start.Rating: High recommendation

I took a chance on this book, I read some reviews and thought what the hey it sounds really cool.So as you read above this book is about ghouls. If you're not into vampires I don't recommend this book for you. It's the same concept except ghouls devour the entire body, not just the blood.Ken's a normal kid who's a bit of an internal, shy guy who just wants to go out on a date. He's a bookworm and focused on college, so it's safe to assume he doesn't get a lot of girl action. A beautiful girl he's been eyeing for a while asks him about a book they're both reading. SPARK. They have things in common and they go out! Romantic, but this isn't that kind of story.Turns out Rize is a ghoul and the date was merely a lure. An accident goes down and poor Ken's life is changed. His world's flipped inside out and upside down, the worst part? He didn't have a say in the matter. Now he's discovering the world of ghouls and what they go through.To make matters worse his best friend, Hide, is a HUMAN and has no idea what Ken has become. Icing on the cake . . . Human food makes Ken sick every time he eats it and he must dispose of it quickly. Whether he wants to or not.This book's really good, since it's manga I could blaze through the thing in one setting. I will reread it but for now I'm tearing through the rest of the volumes in this series. I love the artwork and details in the book.There aern't any really gory stuff. Most of it's blurred out by action and black ink. There are curse words in the book and some scenes are a little intense and emotional. I mean give the kid a break, he's a half breed now and trying to fit into someone's world. It is manga so there are short skirts and cleavage but no unnecessary panty shots or things like that.If you enjoy action, great plots with emotional parts, and vampires then you'll be fine. Yes, ghouls and vampires aren't the same but they do prey on humans. Cannablism is a thing in this book but as I said the artist doesn't go into depth or have up close shots of the victims or gore scenes.Do pick this book up, it's really good. . . Now excuse me while I buy some more the series and wait by the mailbox.

It's in perfect shape, I love it. I noticed one of the words is written backwards not sure why, but no big deal.

I literally can't stop reading, I watched the entire anime season 1-2 and I've waited many years for season 3 which is currently out now but I've been so bored waiting that Ive been craving more so hell I was like why not just read it ;) so now I'm not jus going to read it on my Kindle app on my iPhone but I'm definitely going to buy the entire paper back series of Tokyo ghoul every volume that can be purchased and I can't wait to purchase season 3 of the anime series because I do need to finish the collection hopefully the series continues for me years to come though;) I don't want a half a**ed collection, if ya know what I mean ;)

If you like tragedies and horror manga, this is the one for you.An amazing series by Ishida Sui. This author is great at building characters, forming parallels, foreshadowing (sometimes using Tarot card numbers hidden in the panels), symbolism using flowers, and making you think. He even references old Japanese authors like Kafka. I was on the edge of my seat every week waiting for new chapters to come out. Seriously, support the author and check this series out! It will not disappoint you.

As an older manga reader who has fallen out of manga, this was one last purchase for me at trying a new series. It was worth it, I felt this was a good story and worth the purchase. I'm not saying I'd follow this if it went into anime, but I may keep up with the manga if I can. For some reason I just can't get into manga as I used to, but this was a story worth reading and I'm curious to see how it goes in the future.

I had post-it notes all through the book before I even made a recipe cause I just didn't want to forget anything. A very fun book and a must own for my collection. Her husband's book is one of my top 5 cookbooks and I'm glad to see her style is just as engaging.

This cookbook shows you fun recipes you can do throughout the year for parties and gatherings. You can adapt some of them to other times of the year or with other flavors, as she tends to rely heavily on items you might not find on the east coast through most of the year. She did stay with what was in season, but it is very difficult to find green peppers from New Mexico in New England small town grocery stores. Overall a great cookbook and a fun companion to her husband's book.

I am a HUGE fan of Sarah Michelle Gellar so I wanted to check out this cookbook. It's a big hit with my nieces and nephews, everything I have made out of it they love to eat and it's easy enough for them to help too! I highly recommend it!

I made a few things and they were good. The directions are slightly vague but worked out well. The cauliflower pop corn was great.

Fun cookbook with plenty of recipes that are kid friendly!

The 104 highlights and a dozen notes I took while reading this book may tell how good it is. More than "good" as in "entertaining reading", I think this book is an essential guide on how enterprises must change their mindsets and adapt to a new paradigm of adding value and bring innovation to their businesses.This book evolves the concepts laid out in The Lean Startup (by Eric Ries), and Continuous Delivery (by Jez Humble and David Farley), scaling them up to enterprises and making the more technical approach of the latter palatable to the C-level.

This is a book I am going to read several times. Providing an abundance of references to relevant literature, and being able to gather it all together into a very interesting and relevant to book for everyone who works in the field of innovation and rapid development.

Really liked this book, gave me ideas and inspiration for my work.Especially liked the Improvement Kata approach on enterprise/program level. Miss this part in the frameworks for scaling agile. "Implementing an enterprise-level continuous improvement process is a prerequisite for any large-scale transformation effort".The need for leadership support in the three different horizons in the portfolio is also interesting. What happens when leadership focus should be in the third horizon but actually is in the first?

What a wonderful book that models many valuable traits for children, including:- curiosity- bravery- kindness to animals- creativityAs Hilda and other characters gather information from the radio, books, maps, and the world around them, they pursue adventures, make art, and connect with other characters. Additionally readers have their own map to look at and can use the pictures to decode parts of the story. Readers can also find hidden mythical woodland creatures. They might also discover tiny pixies wandering about.My six year old is transfixed as we read this together. He loves the Moomin books and myths, so this book is right up his alley. It also has him excited to start recording his natural observations as drawings, which has me thrilled (fine motor and science magic!).Highly recommended! One little thing to note: the book has a giant say, “Damn it.” Some families may have issues with that.

I recommend this to every parent I see. I consider Pearson a genius of our time, the world building is fantastic, the mother daughter relationship is rendered with such fidelity and empathy that it is hard to believe it isn't real, and Hilda is the best female kids character since Pipi Longstocking - actually better because it doesn't come with the racist baggage!This deserves to be in every top 5 list of Children's literature. Read the whole series.

Such a cute graphic novel. The art and colors are really beautiful and the quirky creatures make me laugh. I felt so cozy reading this book, it really just makes your day better by reading it. It can be read by adults and kids and both will love it just the same. I also enjoy the material of the paperback novel, it's different than what most graphic novels are printed on but I think it gives it a nice rustic feeling. Only thing I wish is that it was longer! I just wanted to keep reading it!

Everyone should read the Hilda Books. They are so charming and great. The world is rich and the heroine is optimistic and kind.

Such a great size and the illustrations are amazing. I can’t wait to see my daughter’s reaction to this and the other Hilda book I bought her for Hanukkah.

I was really happy to find this book at such a good price, but I was pretty disappointed when it arrived and had a big red "now on Netflix" circle on the front corner. I wish they had shown that in the picture. I would have gone with a different printing.

Wonderful, whimsical, sort of like the sweet younger cousin to Adventure Time.

My daughter and I both love these books. The stories are imaginative and the illustrations fabulous. If your child enjoys fantasy, and maybe needs lots of pictures to really enjoy reading (this is a graphic novel) Hilda is an excellent choice. Plus, if you have Netflix, you can show your kids these books as the originals.

I appreciate the stark authenticity of this book. Colleen is gritty and detailed in her descriptions of the trauma and recovery, which I appreciate, and yet she never loses track of her overarching themes of gratitude and human connection. She doesn't shy away from intimate details of what she has gone through and IS going through in terms of her physical, mental, and emotional trauma, and yet she manages to inspire awe and hope in the reader.The narrative is told through Colleen's engaging and consistent voice. She reminds us that we are all human; we all have ups and downs, tragedies and triumphs, and a shared human experience. In a time when society seems to be so polarized and people seem to be divided by chasms so wide, we don't know how to bridge them, she finds ways to bring people together. It is easy and fulfilling to be kind to each other. We all need and can be heroes to each other in every day life. We all bleed red. We are all human, and life is so much better when we're in it together.

After surviving a massive heart attack, flatlining 3 times (oxygen deprivation lead to ongoing short-term memory loss), spending 3 weeks in CCU/ICU, follow-up surgeries, inability to continue in the legal field due to memory issues, disability, severe depression, etc., my life has been forever changed. Reading this book gave me a kick in the pants knowing if Colleen overcame her obstacles to continue on to a very fulfilling life, focusing on others, gave me hope and the courage to continue my journey.

Not since one of my favorite memoirs, Mary Karr's "Liars' Club" have I been riveted and amazed at the ability to write about traumatic events with such grace and wit. Colleen suffered horribly, yet rebounds again and again with faith emerging iron woman-strong in both psyche and body. There are horrific images, but the victory is stronger.

I know of Colleen's story by following her and Sean on FB. I read Matt Long's book in January 2012 and ran the same half marathon where Matt Long was her guide and can distinctly remember passing him while he waited for her so he could guide her the rest of the way. Colleen is a warrior for sure, a fighter literally to the very end and beyond. She is the epitome of no excuses, never give up, and the fact that it's ok to not be Ok, as long as you don't give up moving forward. Thank you, Colleen, for sharing your story with the world so that we can all find light in whatever we are struggling to achieve.

I met Colleen last year at a Ride of Silence (honoring cyclists and pedestrians who have been killed or injured by motorists) in her hometown in CT. It was like meeting an angel. This is a great book about an amazingly strong and positive woman. I love the summary list at the end about what we can all do to be heroes. I already gave blood twice as a result of Colleen's advocacy.

What an amazing story and outlook on life. Colleen is a wonderful writer and does a great job of sharing her remarkable story. Her writing takes you though the tough stuff with grace and wit. She doesn't hold back at all. Her remarkable perspective that has gotten her through challenges most will never face, is so inspiring and motivating. READ THIS BOOK it will improve your life and your perspective on EVERYTHING!!!

Colleen Kelly Alexander's story is one of inspiration, determination, and true grit. She manages to find hope in dark places and teaches others to do the same. This story is not for the faint of heart - she shares intimate details of her injuries and the aftermath those injuries cause. This is a very meticulously reasoned argument attempting to show that Jesus had a Divine self-conception. That is, Jesus believed, and claimed, that he was God.Pitre begins by posing C.S. Lewis’ famous “trilemma” to the reader. If Jesus claimed to be God, we have three ways to respond – he was either a Liar, Lunatic, or Lord. Pitre’s work in this book strives to bring us back, face to face, with this trilemma. To accomplish this, Pitre needs to defeat another popular notion in the modern mind – that Jesus, or at least much of the Gospel material about him, was a “Legend.” If Pitre can show that Jesus did, in fact, historically claim Divinity, we will be forced to respond to his claim and answer Jesus’ own question for ourselves – “Who do you say that I am?”To accomplish this Pitre first attempts to show that the Gospels are historically reliable. He believes that, contrary to modern scholarly opinion, the Gospels were indeed written by the authors they have been attributed to (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John), that they were intended to portray historically accurate biographical pictures of Jesus, and that they were written much more closely to the time of Jesus than liberal scholars assume (Pitre tentatively dates the synoptic Gospels all before the destruction of the Temple in AD 70). These three pieces of evidence – authorship, intent, and dating – all lead Pitre to the conclusion that the Gospels give us historically accurate information about Jesus.After setting the stage by arguing for the accuracy of our sources, Pitre delves into the synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, and Luke) and tries to show that although it is not always explicit (i.e. Jesus doesn’t say “I am God, worship Me.”) even the synoptics portray Jesus as claiming Divinity. Using evidence such as Jesus’ use of the titles “Son of Man” and “I Am,” prophesy from the book of Daniel, Jesus’ “stilling of the storm,” the transfiguration, the pronouncement of the forgiveness of the parlytic’s sins, the riddle about the Son of David being David’s “Lord,”, the crucifixion, and the resurrection, Pitre makes his case. In the end, he believes that not only do the Gospel authors portray Jesus as Divine, but that these claims came from Jesus himself.Thus we are led, full circle, back to the trilemma. We can call Jesus Liar, Lunatic, or Lord, but not, according to Pitre, a Legend.This was a really interesting read from a conservative scholar. His exegesis of many Gospel passages illuminate how the Hebrew Scriptures provide a much needed backdrop for understanding each story. The Gospels are much more nuanced than we might first think and oftentimes one saying or image may evoke whole passages or concepts from the Old Testament that would have been apparent to early Jewish readers. As Pitre argues, understanding the Jewish context of the synoptic authors helps in understanding their Christology.In the end, I agree with Pitre that the Gospels are generally more historically accurate than “mainstream” scholars give them credit for. I think it’s plausible that the Gospel titles reveal their true authors and that they were written fairly early after Jesus’ death (before the fall of Jerusalem). I also agree that the Synoptics may implicitly ascribe Divinity to Jesus – although I don’t think that is an open and shut case. If there were more explicit cases in the synoptic Gospels where Jesus claimed Divinity, it would help his case. It still seems to me the only explicit sayings we have come from the Gospel of John, which even Pitre doesn’t seem to argue is historically reliable (at least he doesn’t focus on this in the book).It’s probably outside the scope of this book, but I would have loved to see Pitre address the idea of Jesus as Apocalyptic Prophet. He interacts with several scholars who accept this notion (EP Sanders, Dale Allison, Bart Ehrman, John Meier) and it’s a viable option in the world of Historical Jesus scholarship. I think it’s a relevant topic in all discussions surrounding a Historical Jesus and can be a large factor in how one answers the question of Jesus’ identity.This study is worth reading regardless of your theological persuasion, and Pitre’s arguments deserve serious consideration.

Lots of reviewers have written great reviews, so this one will be fairly brief. Brant Pitre's books, this one included, are an example of what is best in the new scriptural studies emerging today. His research is solid and meticulous - no sloppiness here! - and he writes with a refreshingly strong Catholic faith. This book carefully and effectively undoes the harm of decades of scholars' attempts to debunk the Gospels. He very effectively rebuts 20th century scholars' claims that we don't know who wrote the Gospels, and that they were written so long time after Jesus' time on earth that they lack credibility as eyewitness, historical accounts. Step by step, with each chapter building on the next, Pitre shows the opposite to be true. Christians who have been disturbed by the debunkers will be strengthened, confirmed, and given much joy by this book. I've just purchased three more copies to give to friends - one of them a Catholic high school teacher and two, Catholic priests. But I think Christians of any denomination will welcome this book.Pitre's writing style is a joy to read: lucid, clear, and very easy to understand (even when I'm tired at the end of the day), without being annoyingly clever (as some popularizers can be) or pushy (as some apologists are). (I see Pitre as neither a popularizer nor an apologist; he is a scripture scholar who also is a fantastic communicator.) Without any attempt on his part to be "entertaining," Pitre has written a cliff-hanger - I couldn't put the book down! His insights - and now I'm speaking of the insights in all three of his books that I've read so far - Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist, Jesus the Bridegroom, and this book, The Case for Jesus - are profound and deeply enriching spiritually. Although I've questioned a few of his insights, most of them have moved me profoundly, with a sense of wonder, and deep love and gratitude to Our Lord. Reading his books is, for me, a real form of prayer. I am looking forward to reading Jesus and the Last Supper (borrowed from the library to see whether I'll want to buy my own copy); this last book, per its reviewers, is aimed at a scholarly audience and different in tone from the three very accessible books I named above, but I'm expecting this book to be a treasure, too.In all of his books, Brant Pitre's lucid writing style, coupled with his solid scholarship, deep faith, and beautiful love for Our Lord, makes for a very special reading experience. I appreciate his respect for and great knowledge of Judaism, and the way he helps us to see the rich continuity between the Jewish and Christian faiths. Brant Pitre’s books are a real gift to us all.

Being an ordained minister, I can truthfully say that Dr. Brant Pitre’s book, “The Case for Jesus” is a long awaited, clearly articulated and fascinating book about Jesus and his message. Having gone through many classes about Scripture, and graduating more confused than when I started, I have read Pitre’s book and thanked God that the Spirit guided Pitre’s endeavor. Dr. Pitre argues clearly and authoritively the case for the existence of Jesus and his claims of Deity. Yes, I did say “Deity.” I challenge any scholar to find fault with Pitre’s arguments. As usual, Dr. Pitre argues that you must look at Scripture through the eyes of a 1st century Jew. Doing this, brings clarity and reason to Jesus’ existence and claims. It has been Brant’s forte in preaching and moving many to discern for themselves the message of Christ.I have used Dr. Brant Pitre’s materials in many workshops and would love to meet him some day in person. In the meantime, I will continue to encounter him in his books and lectures and share my discovery with others. This is a MUST read for any Christian and even those who doubt the existence of the Christ.
