Each book reveals the fascinating web of relationships between climate, plants, animals, and people that makes every biome unique." Author Trevor Day defines the Taiga biome as "a magical world of conifer forests where moose, caribou and wolves live;" it is comprised of "dark, mostly coniferous forests [that] grow in a band of extreme weather circling the northern hemisphere from Alaska to Japan." These forests are often called "boreal" forests, although the term is not all-inclusive. In a nutshell, "taiga" is Russian for "marshy pine forest," and "Boreus, [is] the god of the north wind."After defining his terms, author Day next explores the regions, climates, plants, animals, peoples, and most importantly, the possible future of the Taiga. The text conveys a great deal of information in a manner that is enjoyable and easy to understand. Included are colorful maps, fact panels, and an array of exciting photographs. There is also a glossary, an index and a list of sources for further study. In addition, this book meets curriculum standards for its subject. I recommend TAIGA for the casual reader as well as for the serious student, who will find it useful as a springboard to future research. I just bought this book for a study of the taiga, and it is really helpful!It describes the main parts of the ecosystem, e.g. its climate, plants, and animals.Furthermore it briefly compares the taiga in different parts of the worlds with each other.I recommend this book to everyone who is interested in the taiga and/or the earth's biomes.It is a great book for a not too in-depth study, for in-depth study I would probably recommend a more scientific book.

This book has been a great help to me...a novice cap gun collector (although I grew up with a cap gun in hand during the 1950s). This book is full of color photos, except for the old B&W ones. The "Preface"" would make a fine newspaper editorial today (for a conservative paper like The Washington Times). This book covers the guns and holsters of about 77 "names", from the "famous", like Gene Autry, to the little known, like Smoky Joe..and a background and history of each. At the end of the book (at the request of the publisher) is a "price guide". Although the book, and hence the "price guide", are almost 20 years old, I personally feel the price estimates are too high...due to the fact that eBay was in its infant stages at the time. Today, you can do a advanced eBay search to find what these items are actually SELLING for online. Yes, vintage toy shows and antique stores can be much higher. The only thing lacking is a "no name" gun you may have, or one with a name like "Texan" or "Stallion", to name two.All in all, I cannot imagine a better book for the cap gun collector...or anyone who is interested in "The Good Old Days".I have also reviewed "Cap Guns" by James Dundas.

If you are a fan of the old westerns, new westerns, cap gun collecting, you will love this book if you are lucky enough to find one, this has a wonderful collection of info. about various old westerns and their stars and the cap guns that were made in their honor, just a great and entertaining book and also a very good reference source for the collector. I rate this 5 stars only because they don't have 6...............Mike D.

This is not just a book about toy cap pistols, it is a time machine. Not only does Mr. D'angelo present the cap pistols of our youth but he reveals the actors who played the part on television. A fact filled, exhaustive research of a love he shares with us. I had forgotten many of the toys he describes. Each page brought back memories of a childhood where honor and truth was the spoken word of the cowboy. So fans of the 50's and 60's westerns, return to those thrilling days of yesteryear when all boys wore their six shooters with pride and rode into the sunset.....

Great book, very enjoyable and entertaining read. Very informatve, never knew so many different cap guns existed. If you want to know about your favorite cowboy hero or the cap gun and holster bearing their name this is the book you need. Also contains a list of values of a great number of cap guns.

Amazing book for the cap gun & western TV fan! Great narratives on the TV western, its heroes and the cap guns, holsters and rifles sold to youngsters and adults alike. Terrific level of effort by D'Angelo researching this piece of Americana.
